With over a million unique hits a year, the GCPS public website is not your average school system website. Being the largest school system in Georgia and the 14th largest in the United States, over 176,000 students, 20,000 employees, and hundreds of thousands of parents use this website daily. For many, this is not only their sole source of district information but their primary way of signing in to their respective portals.

With that in mind, GCPS was looking to replace its aging IBM Lotus Notes database with something more robust, flexible, beautiful, and performant. I partnered with IBM to lead the design and development of this website from the ground up to create something responsive, accessible, and lightweight.

An interesting achievement: I designed and developed a slideshow plugin that uses quantitative color analysis using canvas to get the most attractive, dominant, and human-readable color from a client-uploaded image, and applies that color to the slideshow title and caption.
